One way to look at the controversy, high athletic pay, is to support it. One reason upon many is to want athletes to still have high salaries is, professional athletes are entertainers, and they make what the market is willing to pay. They are no different than any other entertainers so the public can control the salaries by either attending or not attending games. "Lowering their salaries will not improve the economy or the average income of people not related to the sport." as said by Sports Digest. In addition, in many cases while the other kids in high school & college were partying, star athletes were in the gym or on the field working on their craft, yet they get no recognition for it. Also, the owners of these teams make a lot of money, and in many cases more than their players. For example, Arod (Alex Rodriguez) makes 25-30 million a year, yet his boss makes about 250-300 million a year. Finally, if sport fans are willing to pay so much to go see a game, or get an autograph, then the athletes who everybody wants to see should get the recognition from the fans and the a part of the money and profits from tickets and autographs. These are some of the many views from different people and websites, all supporting high athletic pay, and protecting athletes who are getting so much money.

Another way to look at the controversy, high athletic pay, is against it. As said by College Net, "...without doctors in our society, people will suffer and die from diseases. Without garbage men, trash will pile up in our streets. Without teachers, our students and therefore our society's future would head to chaos. On the other hand, if you remove professional athletes out of society.... nothing really happens..." This says that this website does not support high athletic pay and if athletes were not in society, not much would change. Additionally, it doesn't benefit the society when star athletes are making millions of dollars, yet the unemployment rates have gotten even higher, and more people are living below the poverty line. Finally, although fans may be willing to pay so much money, many sport societies believe that if they would donate part of those profits to the "poverty associations" then it would greatly benefit the society. These are some of the many views from different people and websites, all against high athletic pay, and believe that athletes shouldn't be getting so much money.
My Opinion on High Athletic Pay:

I personally believe that athletes should be paid however high salary they qualify for and I approve of high athletic pay. First of all, athletes practice their sport so long and with so much repetition, that they should deserve the recognition and pay. Also, the reason why sports are so popular and get so much revenue or income, is because of those star athletes. For example, people pay money to buy tickets in the stadium to watch them, and they pay for autographs, because of the athletes. I believe that it isn't fair that the coaches and managers get so much more money and profits than even the athletes themselves, when the managers dont have to do nearly as much. Finally, lowering their salaries will not improve the economy or the average income of people not related to the sport! After reading and researching both points of view of this controversy, I have made an educated opinion of why I personally believe that star athletes should continue to be paid high salaries.
